Timbre Lituanie - Jeux Olympiques de Londres 2012 (Boxe et Canoë)

Le 9 juin 2012, la Lituanie a émis 2 timbres en commémoration des Jeux Olympiques de Londres. Deux sports sont représentés (boxe et canoë) avec le logo de Londres 2012.

The 30th Summer Olympic Games, commencing in London on 27 July, will be depicted in two new Lithuanian postage stamps. The stamps will be released this Saturday, June 8.

The stamps dedicated to the London Summer Olympic Games have been created by Ieva Griškaitė. One of them features a boxer, and another one – a single scull rower. The edition of each of postage is 100,000 copies. The nominal value of the stamp depicting boxing is LTL 3.35 (EUR 0.97), and the nominal value of the stamp featuring canoeing is LTL 3.55 (EUR 1.02).

Along with the stamps, the first day cover and sheet will be issued. On Saturday in Vilnius Mail Post Office letter-post items paid by the new stamps will be marked with the first day cancellation.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be held from July 27 until August 12. London will host the Olympic Games for the third time. Previously the games were arranged in this city in the years 1908 and 1948.

The Olympics Games were first arranged in ancient Greece to honour Zeus, the Greek Father of the gods. At the end of the 19th century, the Olympics were renewed due to the efforts of Pierre de Coubertin.

The first Modern Olympic Games were arranged in 1896 and subsequently held every four years except for war periods. The last Games took place in 2008 in Peking (China). The 25thof May 1924 was the first time when Lithuania participated in the Games held in Paris (France).

On average, every year Lithuania Post issues 25-30 postage stamps. The company also provides postal, courier, logistic, and financial intermediation services.
